Welcome to Tobacco-Free!

Tobacco-Free is a coalition of organizations involved in the battle against tobacco. The founding of Tobacco-Free on 11 August 1994 is in conformity with WHO’s recommendation to establish a non-governmental coalition against tobacco. Tobacco-free take account of the individual organizations need to be able to act jointly when facing political authorities, the press etc in their efforts to reduce tobacco consumption.

Tobacco-Free will in 2002 give the work concerning smoke-free bars and restaurants and introducing a licensing system for tobacco sales high priority. In order to improve the working environment for the waiters, it is necessary to establish smoke-free bars and restaurants. Establishing of smoke-free bars and restaurants will also increase the accessibility to people that is bothered by passive smoking and reduce smoking among adolescence. The introduction of an 18-year limit for buying tobacco has not reduced smoking among youngsters and even 14-years old children can today easily buy the own cigarettes in Norway. Experience from other countries has demonstrated that it is necessary to introducing a licensing system for tobacco sales in order to reduce tobacco sale to under age adolescence.
